Making Applesauce!

Homemade Applesauce

Ingredients:

4 medium apples
½ cup water
Cinnamon
Optional: 1/8 cup brown sugar
Getting Ready:
1.    The hardest part is cutting and coring the apples. You can peel them if you like (up to you), but you should cut them into quarters and then cut out the seeds and stems. You might call your grownup assistant for this!
2.    Put the cut-up apples, cinnamon (optional: brown sugar) and water into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for about 5 minutes. Let it sit for a few more minutes to cool.
3.    Carefully remove from microwave using hot pads.
4.    Mash the Apple mixture with a fork or potato masher.
5.    Garnish with dried cranberries, if desired.

Special Instructions/notes on making applesauce:
Grade 1
Gabriel - Use the peeler to take the skin. After you microwave it, smash it! It tastes yummy!
Nathan – Scrape against the apple, cut around the core and pull it. Then slice the apple into shreds. Please try this applesauce, it is awesome!
Grace –Put a spoonful of water into a mug (with the apple). Then put it in the microwave for 3 minutes. Grab a fork and squash it. It tastes bad!
Grade 2
Luis – Get the peeler and make it a spiral, but roll it around.
Addie – Peel the apple with a peeler and pull the core out, too.
Ivan – Take a peeler and then scrape.
Ethan – Dig deep down in the apple. Pull toward yourself and the peel will fall off.
Grade 3
Grace - Push in and peel or pull the peeler like a ring around the apple. To core the apple, you push in the peeler like you’re digging a hole. Then twist around and pull out the sore. It tasted amazing, awesome and incredible!
Grade 4
Miriam – To peel an apple, first dig in with the sharp edge of the peeler and scrape off the peel.
Manuel – You just need a peeler. Use the sharp part. Scratch the apple but then you will realize that the center has some skin. Next, grab your peeler and push it to the center until it falls. Your apple will be hollow so you can eat it with no problem. If you want, you can cut it with a knife.
Emilio – I will teach you how to peel an apple. If you don’t know how, you are in the right place! Peeling an apple is super easy to do. First, get a peeler. If you don’t know what it is, it’s a metal tool that has a sharp point. It’s not a knife. Also, peel is an action like you use the peeler to peel an apple. It’s like you scratch an apple. Second, peel the apple like this – grab the apple and push the peeler to the apple. (WARNING! It’s sharp and it may cut you!
Ha Young – To peel an apple you need to get a peeler and scratch the apple smoothly and make it a spiral. After you finish, dig in with your pointy peeler to get a spiral and core the apple.
Amanny – First, get a peeler or knife. Scrape off the skin. Cut into the skin (a peeler works best). When you are done, core the apple (take middle part out). Dig a circle on the apple and then pull it out!

Pretzels

Pretzels
by Juan Pablo

Pretzels are a golden brown snack food that you can find in the U.S.A. at carnivals, gas stations and in other places. Pretzels are made of yeast, salt, eggs, hot water, flour, and sugar. I kneaded the dough, then with the dough I shaped my initials “J.P.” I baked it till the outside was crusty. I liked it a lot!

Pretzels
Hi guys cooking is fun but I want us to get to 5,000 likes thx. Pretzels is a type of snack food.

First, you need salt, yeast, hot water, flower, sugar. Second, you need to put yeast and the hot water in a bowl. Third, put everything in the bowl. Next, mix the bowl up with a wooden spoon. Then, you knead the dough and make any shape you want. I made a pretzel shape and a chicken shape.  You can find them in the USA, Walmart, and in cafeterias. It was a good pretzel so yeah, I enjoyed it.

Stromboli!

Strombolis are a type of turnover made from pizza dough, cheese, Italian meats and vegetables. They were invented in the United States in the 1950's according to Wikipedia.

You will need:

Cutting board or a clean smooth surface
Rolling pin
Blunt knife
Baking tray

Ingredients:

Pizza dough (personal size)     Pepperoni
Mozzarella cheese                    Oil
Parmesan cheese                      Pizza sauce
Melted butter/ oil                       Flour

Directions:

  1. Dust the surface of a cutting mat/board with flour.
  2. Take an individual portion of pizza dough and lightly flour the outside of it so that it is soft and smooth, not sticky.
  3. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough evenly to about 1/4 thickness. Add very small amounts of flour as needed to prevent stickiness.
  4. Spread about 1/3 cup of mozzarella cheese evenly to 1/2 inch of the edge of the rolled dough.
  5. Arrange 5 slices of pepperoni, if desired.
  6. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  7. Start at one edge and tuck and roll until it takes the shape of a spiral. Make sure that you end with the dough rolled over, like a flap of an envelope.
  8. Cut 3 diagonal slits on top.
  9. Brush top with melted butter or oil.
  10. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top for added flavor.
  11. Bake on sprayed pan for 15 minutes @ 375 degrees.
  12. Add sauce to the top and savor the taste!

First grade was in their element with this recipe! Action was the key word (unspoken)!
